2021-2022 Concerts

Rykie came to Vancouver Island 18 years ago via Powell River, where she appeared regularly in concert for the Academy of Music, as well as at the International Kathaumixw Choral Festival.

In the Cowichan Valley she is in demand as teacher, coach and performer, and currently focuses primarily on collaborative work with various voice studios and instrumental ensembles.

Canadian/British Soprano Eve Daniell has performed roles including Krasava in the UK premiere of Smetana’s Libuše (UCOpera),  Elettra (Amersham Festival), Fiordiligi (Opera Holland Park cover, Pop Up Opera, Cooper Hall Emerging Artists Programme), Donna Elvira (OHP cover), Contessa (Royal Academy Opera), Konstanze (Pop Up Opera), Tatiana (Dartington International Summer School), and Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (Royal Academy Opera). She has also performed soprano in a staged small ensemble touring performance of Verdi’s Requiem (Merry Opera), the title role in Handel’s Athalia (Whitehall Choral Society).

Originally from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Eve moved to the UK in 2012 to study at the Royal Academy of Music on a Sainsbury Award and the Catherine Osborne Scholarship.  There she won the highly prestigious Pavarotti Prize before graduating from the Royal Academy Opera in 2016. Her roles as a student included Nella and Suor Genovieffa (Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica), Lady Dunmow (Lennox Berkeley’s A Dinner Engagement), and Fourth Spirit (Massenet’s Cendrillon).

In 2016 Eve made her debut at the Royal Albert Hall as one of a hand-picked selection of young singers invited to sing Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music at the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms.  She has appeared on BBC 4’s The Archers, CBC’s North by Northwest, the Prairie Home Companion (APHC Baltic Cruise 2014) with Garrison Keillor, and on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune. Eve has sung with Bristol University Orchestra, Victoria Bach Ensemble, the Cowichan Valley Consort, with many choral societies in England, and in 2012 sang with the Victoria Symphony (British Columbia) for their annual Symphony Splash concert in the city’s Inner Harbour. Recent performances have seen her at Wilton’s Music Hall, Colston Hall, Trafalgar Square, the National Portrait Gallery, St John’s Smith Square, and at Canada House where she sang Tobin Stoke’s Canoe in a private performance for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, and Governor General David Johnston.

Awards include development grants from the BC Arts Council and the International Opera Foundation to receive mentoring in Mozart’s music from Dr Jane Glover and Dame Felicity Lott, second place in the Ludmilla Andrew Russian Song Prize (2014), and Highly Commended in the Isabel Jay Prize (2015), and the Royal Conservatory of Music National Gold Medal for Voice (2009).  Eve won Senior Classical Voice and before that, Intermediate Classical Voice at the British Columbia Provincial Festival in her early training. Eve was part of the Royal Academy of Music Song Circle, and of the Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series as both a chorus member and as a soloist, and was sponsored by the Josephine Baker Trust. Along with singing, she has an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT) Diploma for Piano Performance. 

Eve’s time at the Dartington International Summer School was made possible through the support of the Derek Hill Foundation and the Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation and her studies at the Royal Academy of Music were generously supported by the Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund, British Columbia Arts Council, Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation, the Jennifer Vyvyan Scholarship, the Maria Callas Award, the Sainsbury Award and the Catherine Osborne Scholarship.
